Anchor of Hope
“I’ve lost hope,” sighed Nadia, as she pulled into the gas station and shut off her car. She leaned forward and rested her head on the steering wheel. The radio news report she just heard seemed to have sucked the joy right out of her. Unemployment was soaring, the economy was worsening, and the whole world seemed to be paralyzed with fear.
“God, I need a miracle. The whole world needs a miracle.” She lifted her head and read the lowered gas price. “Well, at least, I can afford gas for my car.”
Her phone rang. Not recognizing the number, Nadia reluctantly answered the call. It was Amber, a friend from her church, calling to check on her. After Nadia shared her fearfulness, Amber reminded her of why she should have hope.
“Nadia, the Bible tells us that we should live by faith, not by sight. As bleak as the world seems, we know that God has good plans to prosper you, not to harm you. All you have to do is invite Him into your problems, and He WILL help you. Even though overcoming your problems might seem impossible to you, nothing is impossible with God. He will restore you and strengthen you. God goes before you, He will never leave you, and He will never give up on you.
Amber concluded the call with a prayer, and Nadia felt hope sink into her heart again.
