Can You Hear Me Now?

Can You Hear Me Now?

“It seems like my son doesn’t hear anything I say.  I know Jason technically listens to me, but it’s like my words don’t actually penetrate his brain.  I feel like a broken record saying the same things over and over again.”  Carla confessed to her friend during lunch.

Jasmine, one of Carla’s closest friends, knew that Carla was being too hard on herself.  “Carla, I am sure that eventually, Jason will understand what you are trying to teach him.  You just need to be patient.”

Carla halfheartedly laughed and sarcastically asked, “Did you forget who you are talking to?  Patience is not one of my strengths.”

Jasmine smiled at her friend, “Oh, I hear you.  My patience level needs some improvement too,” she chuckled.  “You know, sometimes refocusing my attention helps.  Rather than dwelling on the problem, I find a Bible verse to help me.  For instance, every time you become frustrated with repeating yourself to Jason, you could remind yourself of Proverbs 22:6.

Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Carla sighed and responded, “You’re right. I need to stop worrying about Jason hearing me and just trust God.  It sure would make life easier if Jason would understand that I see a bigger picture than he does.  I truly want what’s best for him, and I could help him if he would just hear  me.”

Jasmine pushed her plate aside, leaned across the table, and interrupted her friend, “Stop and think about what you just said.” Carla was stumped and confused by the question, so Jasmine continued, “Do you think your perspective is as big as God’s perspective? Do you think you love your son more than God loves him?”

Carla answered, “Well, I guess I hadn’t thought about it like that.”

“Carla, I think you are a great mom, and I know you love Jason with all of your heart.  I also know that you have hopes of a great future for him.  Even as fantastic as these facts are, they don’t compare to God’s greatness.  Before the creation of the world, God designed Jason’s talents and one of a kind personality.  Every detail about him has been purposefully crafted.  God has a specific plan for Jason’s gifts to impact the world and fulfil His will.  I think God is probably trying to tell you exactly what you wish your son would realize.

God’s perspective is much larger than yours.  Regardless of how things seem, He loves you and your son more than you can comprehend, and He is always working on your behalf.

Regularly reminding your child of God’s Word helps to keep both of your thoughts lined up with God’s thoughts.  Here’s a tool to help you with this important task.
