When You Think You Don't Measure Up

When You Don’t Think You Measure Up

Have you ever questioned your worthiness to do something because you thought you didn’t measure up to the task?  More than likely, everyone has battled this doubt at one time or another.  We usually have a whole slew of excuses; such as, I am too young, I am too old, I don’t have enough money, education or experience, etc.

God utilizes people who don’t measure up according to the world’s standards.

There is example after example in the Bible of God calling people to do amazing things even though they felt that they didn’t measure up.   Even though he had a speech impediment, Moses was called by God to lead his people out of Egyptian slavery.  David was an adulterer and a murderer, yet God called him to be king of the Israelites, God’s chosen people.  In John 6, Jesus used a young boy with a meager lunch to perform a miracle.  Saul was a powerful persecutor of Christ-followers; however, God used him to spread the gospel to the non-Jewish people and write the majority of the new testament.  These 4 examples are just a few examples of how God utilizes people who don’t measure up to the world’s standards.

“…God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.”- 1 Corintians 1:27  NLT

It’s not who we are that makes us worthy; rather, it’s God that makes us worthy.

In Titus 3:3-7, the author explains that even though people are sinful, God is kind and loving.  God saves people not because of their righteousness or the good things they have done, but because of His mercy.  When we choose to follow Jesus, our sins are eliminated regardless of our past mistakes.  Because of this grace, which is undeserved favor, we are immediately made right with God, and we inherit eternal life in heaven.

Know what God thinks about you.

When you feel worthless, God says that He wonderfully made you.  When you feel unloved and unloveable, God says that you are lavishly loved by Him.  When you feel hopeless, God declares that He has good plans for your future.  When you feel like there’s no way you will make it, God says that He will strengthen you.
