What is the true purpose for your life?

What is the True Purpose for Your Life?

God uniquely created all people on purpose, and He has a specific and good plan for each individual.  To determine the unique and true purpose for your life specifically, it is imperative to understand the 4 things everyone has in common.

1. God Created Mankind in Hopes That We Will Worship Him.

In Genesis 1:27, we learn that God created all of mankind in His image, and Isaiah 43:21 provides more insight regarding our purpose.

…the people whom I formed for myself
that they might declare my praise.

Did you notice the word “might”?  Rather than creating us as robots with no ability to make our own choices, God created us with the freedom to choose whether or not we will declare His praise.    It is completely up to each person to choose to worship Him, but the Word clearly states that He created us for Him, and it is His desire for people to worship Him.

Ways to Worship: The True Purpose for Your Life

  • One of the first things that most people think of is listening to or singing songs that declare the character of God.  This could be done privately or in a group setting, like in a church or concert.
  • Another way to worship God is by spending time reading the Bible and learning about God through pastors, teachers, and faith-filled friends.
  • Communicating with others about who God is or how He has impacted your life to others is a way to worship God.
  • Incorporating regular prayer into your life is worshiping God.
  • Simply noticing and reflecting on the wonder and beauty of God’s creations is a form of worship.  Beauty is all around you, from a spectacular sunset, to the human mind that divinely creates advances in modern technology, to the intricate features of a butterfly.  The list is endless!

2. The True Purpose and Plan for Your Life is Good

The famous scripture, Jeremiah 29:11, indicates that God has good plans for you; not evil plans, and he wants to give you hope for your future.   If you are not experiencing peace and God’s goodness in your life, the answer to your dilemma is found in scripture.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…  – Hosea 4:6

How can you avoid destruction and gain knowledge?  Return to the foundation of the reason you were created: to worship God.  Acting as a springboard to help you attain knowledge, the suggestions of ways to worship will help you on your journey to discover your true purpose for your life.

3. Loving People is One Part of the True Purpose for Your Life

Within the 22nd Chapter of Matthew, Jesus declares that the greatest commandment is to love God with all of your heart, soul, and mind and that the second greatest commandment is to love people.   Loving God can be fulfilled by using the suggestions listed in the Ways to Worship section.  Inevitably, when you worship God, your heart will become softer toward people; and eventually, a desire to respond will begin to grow in your heart.   Exhibiting an outward response to this desire is unique to every person; so please, do not compare your response to someone else’s response.

4. Your Gift of Grace is Linked to the True Purpose for Your Life

To put loving people into action, each and every person has been gifted with at least one of the 7 gifts of grace.   People with the gift of prophecy declare the purposes of God by comforting or reproving others.  Ministering to the needs of others, people with the gift of serving naturally recognize the practical needs of others. Utilizing the gift of teaching, which is helping people to attain and apply new information, is another way to love people. You will find people with the gift of exhortation naturally encouraging and uplifting people to their ultimate potential.  Lovingly, people with the gift of mercy naturally extend genuine and unconditional compassion toward others.  Extending great generosity to people in need or missions is exhibited by people with the gift of generosity. Finally, people with the gift of leadership have the gift of persuading people towards shared objectives and goals.
