The Thoughts You’re Thinking Now Are Influencing Your Future
What you continue to think about does shape your life. More specifically, your current personality (your attitude, your self-worth, how you treat others, etc.) is rooted in the thoughts you’re thinking now and have thought in the past.
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. – Proverbs 23:7 NKJV
A man with a constantly sour attitude is a man with overall poor thoughts about himself. People who are constantly dominated by anger are typically preoccupied with themselves and focused on things that have not met their wants or expectations; or, in other words, have unchecked pride in their hearts. In contrast, consistently joyful people regularly choose to think about pleasant and hopeful things.
Can the Thoughts You’re Thinking Cause You to Have Peace?
Yes! By regularly thinking about the promises of God within the Bible, you can have the fruits of the spirit, such as peace, dominate your attitude. Does that mean that you will never experience any ungodly feelings or attitudes? Most certainly not! Yet, bit by bit, your thoughts and attitudes will become more godly.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. -Isaiah 26:3
Don’t believe this lie: I can’t control my thoughts.
You may not be able to control the thoughts or ideas that come to your mind, but you truly do have the ability to choose to replace them with something different. 2 Timothy 1:7 proves that God has given you the ability to exercise self-control.
…God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Here’s the kicker to controlling the thoughts you’re thinking about…Allowing a random or false thought to dwell in your mind takes no effort; however, choosing to replace it with truth takes effort. Not only do you have to learn to recognize fallacies, but you also need to be aware of the truth with which to replace the fallacy.
For instance, if you struggle with anger, you need to be able to quickly recognize feelings of frustration or angry thoughts and substitute them with scripture. There are numerous scriptures to combat anger; one of which is Galatians 5:22-23.
…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulnes, gentleness, self-control…
